Annotation

The present paper seeks to contribute to the discussion of this central ques tion by analyzing the early history of the Temple of Understanding (TOU), one of the central institutions of the modern IRD movement, created in 1960 and still in existence today. This paper analyzes the TOU's history with a particular focus on its contribution to IRD. The TOU was – and still is – characterized by a number of features, outlined below, that influenced the way the TOU developed.
