Hematic values in alpacas are important in Ecuador, as they contribute to determining production and reproduction on the exposure of livestock species to high altitudes. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of altitude on the health of male alpacas through hematological parameters. Blood samples were taken from 20 adult male alpacas of the Huacaya breed (Vicugna pacos, 60 ? 1.62 kg live weight), exposed to altitudes of 2 700 and 3 700 meters above sea level. The animals were distributed in two groups according to their location and geographical space, and theinfluence of altitude on the health of male alpacas used to reproduce this species was analyzed. The hematological biometry showed healthy animals suitable for production and reproduction, in addition to high concentrations of red and white blood cells, so it was concluded that exposure to altitude could stimulate the production of red blood cells and leukocytes under the conditions of this study shows that exposure to altitude will not influence the production and reproduction of this species |
