The research considers the efficiency of using the regional component with the aim of teaching tolerance to students. The aim of the study was to reveal that the intensive implementation of elements of the regional component involving region related data in English lessons allows teachers to apply the principle of multiculturalism, which is focused on a sociocultural group with its main components - religious, political, ethnical, class, language, professional, gen-der, age peculiarities. Enriching the content of the curriculum with the region related data has a motivating force which results in students' developing not only linguistic, social and cultural competences, but also foster tolerance in students engraining it as a behavior pattern. The research sample was randomly selected from the 1st course students of Kazan Fed-eral University, Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, and divided into 2 groups - the con-trol group and the experimental one. At the final stage of studying the topic “Multicul-tural environment”, the students in the control group did some traditional exercises, the students of the experimental group were given tasks containing some region related da-ta. The analysis of the results of the experiment and the questionnaire which was conducted among the students after the experiment verify the efficiency of using region related da-ta to teach tolerance. The findings of the research testify that the regional component in the curriculum of the subject enhances a better mastering the language simultaneously allowing to tackle educational awareness-raising tasks: developing tolerance in terms of multinational environment, forming and developing students' moral values, the sense of patriotism, civic consciousness. |
