Annotation The rhyncheal system comprises four armed, invaginable tentacles, tentacle sheaths, retractor muscles, and hydroprotractor muscular bulbs. Tentacles, sheaths, and muscular bulbs possess a closed cavity – the rhynchocoel, which is lined by the rhynchothelial cells. The tentacle wall has myoepithelial syncytial structure and consists of anuclear apical cytoplasm filled with secretory granules, extracellular multilaminar support plate, and the basal cytoplasm with nuclei, myofibrils, and secretory granules. Thin neurites penetrate the fibrous plate of the tentacle sheaths and enter in the rhynchocoel. The tentacular bulbs consist of striated muscles surrounding a bulb lumen and innervated by the motor neurons.
