    Annotation This paper is devoted to the study of the work of famous Tatar folklore scientists academician V. V. Radlov and famous student N. F. Katanov. In the second half of the XIXth century a young German scientist V. V. Radlov (Friedrich Wilhelm Radloff) arrived in Russia to study the features of the little-known Turkic languages of the peoples of the Asian part of Russia, including the Tatars living in Siberia. For many years, he recorded «live« spoken speech of native speakers of these languages. V. V. Radlov's student Russian scientist N. F. Katanov continues successfully the research in this field.
