dc.description.abstract |
Mulussa F Formation (Upper Triassic) is one of the important geological formations
constituting the Mulussa group in Syria. The sediments of this formation spread
mainly in the North East part of the country and takes its importance in the
Euphrates Graben. Its deposites form the secondary reservoir and contain almost
50% of hydrocarbon potential through the area (Euphrates Graben).
Boreholes data permitted especially Omar reference structure confining the
formation between two lithostratigraphic Markers, and enabled its division into three
lithostratigraphic members MUF3, MUF2, MUF1 (from bottom to top). Each member
consists of a set of units, subunits and lithologic intervals. Petrology Studying
provided a precise petrological description of various formation members and their
Diagenetic. And show that the members of the formation are composed of
continental detrital sediments made up of claystones (Kaolinite / Illite) and shale /
Dolomitic claystone, cute by intervals of Quartz sandstones, clay sandstones and silty
sandstones. But the carbonate sediments are generally absent from the formation
unless it's base which consist of Dolomitic claystone and its tope which are close to
carbonate composition. This sediment of those members spread out as repeated or
harmonic alternations whose Facies gradients reflect transgression and regression
sequences. The correlation of these sediments led to show their differences with
time and place. And represent narrow barriers near river mouth with meandering
channels and limited coastal deposits, locally floating and laterally thinning. |
