Annotation For the effectiveness of teaching university students a foreign language, it is necessary to determine the conditions that would facilitate this process, thus ensuring the effectiveness of the use of student-centered learning technology in the educational process. By pedagogical conditions, we mean a set of measures that can influence the provision of conditions for encouraging the development of students' linguistic competencies as part of their self-learning. The purpose of this study is the theoretical substantiation and experimental verification of the above-mentioned conditions. For this purpose, a complex of methods was used to study the motivation of students for self-learning. The study was conducted at Kazan (Volga region) Federal University and involved 58 students (30 students of the Institute of International Relations and 28 students of the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance). Experimental results showed a positive trend in the level of students' readiness to develop linguistic competences as part of their self-learning.
