Annotation The article discusses the struggle between Rome and Vei for the city of Fidenae. The authors indicate that the reason for wars was the protection Latium from the expansion of the Etruscans, and then the control over the trade routes from the Etruscans to the Campaign and from the coast to the inland areas of Italy. Fidenae is an ancient city of Latium, located on the hill between the Tiber and its left tributary, the Aniene, in the Sabines District 40 stages (6-8 kilometers) north of Rome. Ancient authors note both the Latin and the Etruscan origin of the city's population. Dionysius and Livy wrote of eight cases of hostilities between Fidenae that were supported by Veii, and Rome. The most recent clash between Rome and Fidenae refers to 426 BC, after Fidenae already not mentioned in the sources as an opponent of the Romans. Loss Campania for Etruscan twelve has become irrelevant support Vei in the fight with the Romans.
