Crude Oils and their Derivatives. Chapter 4 (p. 101-124) / M. Gafurov, M. Volodin, T. Biktagirov, G. Mamin and S. B. Orlinskii in Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oiland Related Products (A.K. Shukla ed.) - 2018 JohnWiley & Sons Ltd. 296 p. |
Annotation |
The present chapter is focused on the application of different electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) techniques to study the structure and dynamics of native paramagnetic centers such as ?free? radicals (FR) and vanadyl complexes (VO2+) in crude oils, bitumen and their derivatives. Some basics of the EPR method are presented. The features of the observation of EPR in the mentioned systems at high frequencies (94 GHz) and in pulsed regimes are pointed out. Original output of series of works regarding asphaltenes' structure by using the double resonance techniques such as the pulsed electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) is shown. Some practical applications of the demonstrated approaches are discussed. |
Keywords |
Crude oil, heavy oil, asphaltenes, paramagnetic centers, EPR, ESR, high-frequency, (high-field) EPR, relaxation times, ENDOR |
