The Mulussa ?F? formation consists mainly of floodplain claystones interbedded with fluviatile sandstones. Based on petrological investigations and core description integrated with geophysical analyses, four major lithofacies have been detected including; 1 Major sandstone bodies lithofacies, 2 Minor sandstone bodies lithofacies, 3Claystone / siltstone lithofacies, 4Dolomitic claystone lithofacies. Lithofacies analysis indicated that the formation was deposited in environments ranges from a low energy, wet, highly vegetated anastomosed fluvial system to a high energy, relatively dry, braided fluvial system. The conclusion attained proposed continuous slow periodic sedimentation in a sedimentary basin having variable bathymetry and geometry, controlled by fluctuations in water sea level and meteorological changes besides gradual subsidence. The sediments represent barriers near river mouth with curling waterway channels and limited deltaic deposits, floating and laterally thinning. |
