Annotation The article examines the problem of the Tatars Islamic identity type in the modern Tatarstan religious discourse. The leading method of the research is based on detailed interviews, and the analysis of religious literature, which allowed studying the content of modern religious debates. The results of the research testify that the distinctions of the views of two religious authorities – Idris Galyautdin and Halim Shamsutdinov are minimal, they concern the dogmatic questions connected with the location of God – Allah.
