Annotation

On the basis of archival materials and literature the article highlights some aspects of inter-confessional and inter-ethnic relations in the historical and cultural processes that have developed during XVIII till beginning of the XX centuries on the territory of the Kazan province. The value of historical and cultural background and regional characteristics and their influence on the nature of the investigated relations is revealed. The most important backgrounds include: geographical location of the specified area; multi-ethnic and multi-religious composition of the population; Islamic stratum of the Bulgar-Tatar culture; the policy of the Russian state in matters of religion; European influence on the development of culture (education) in Russia, «Jadidism« in Muslim culture; tolerance as a condition of educational institutions; consistent transformation of Kazan in the cultural and educational center.
