Annotation Organic wastes such as organic fractions of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) or sewage sludge (SS) have become a serious environmental problem, in Russia as well as in other countries. Use of these wastes as soil conditioners allows us to minimize their negative impact on the environment. However before these wastes can be utilized they need to be treated appropriately. In this work, results of composting of raw SS, OFMSW, a mixture of these two wastes (OFMSW+SS) as well as the digested variants of these wastes (SSd, OFMSWd and OFMSWd+SSd) mixed with sawdust (OS) are presented. Digested variants were received by preliminary treatment under anaerobic thermophilic conditions for 15 days in batch-reactors. Toxicity of water elutriates was estimated using waterflea Daphnia magna, infusoria Paramecium caudatum and the higher plant Raphanus sativus in initial substrates and digestates. To achieve this, the lowest dilution factor causing 10% of mortality (LID10) for aquatic organisms and germi
