Stability of soil slopes affected by seepage flows is an important criterion of design, construction and maintenance of drainage ditches, earth dams, quarries, tunnels, and other hydraulic structures. Seepage induced or enhanced erosion of slopes occurs as heaving, piping, liquefaction, suffusion, boiling, washing, creep, sloughing, slipping, and landsliding. Water (pore) pressure and hydraulic gradients near the slope are most important in the analysis of stability of man-made and natural slopes. |
