Upscaling procedures are illustrated for 2-D Stokes flows in fractures and Darcian flows in parquet-type heterogeneous aquifers. Seepage in a semicircular and semi-spherical fully saturated porous lump is studied. Development of erosion channels in homogeneous
massifs as a moving boundary problem is addressed. Optimal shape design and isoperimetric problems in ground water applications are discussed. Heat dissipation from developed cooling surfaces is
analyzed in terms of 2-D conduction models.
