    Annotation The relevance of the studied problem is caused by the need to improve Russian history textbooks for university students. This includes the consideration of modern Russian and foreign historiography achievements. The purpose of this article is to describe the factual and ideological content of the Great Northern War (1700-1721) sections in modern Russian textbooks for high school. The leading approaches to the study of this problem is a problem-thematic approach and a comparative approach. The main study results is the determination of data usefulness degree concerning the Russian textbooks material that cover the Great Northern War. The article materials may be useful for the teaching of Russian foreign policy during the first quarter of the XVIII-th century and the history of Russia in XVIII-th century.
