KFU and Open University of Cyprus Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

Оn the 14th of November, KFU and the Open University of Cyprus signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in KFU Department of Educational Resources Development.

The Memorandum was signed by KFU Vice-Rector for International Relations, Mr. Linar Latypov, and the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Open University of Cyprus, Mr. Christou Costas.

The Memorandum of Cooperation signing was the final stage of a two-day visit of the Open University of Cyprus delegation to KFU. On the eve the honoured guests met with top authorities of Kazan University. Discussed today in the Department of Educational Resources Development were promising areas of cooperation.

The Director of the Department of Educational Resources Development, Ms. Galina Ivshina, the Head of the Department of Highly Viscous Oils and Natural Bitumen, Mr. Alim Kemalov, the Director of the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance, Ms. Nailya Bagautdinova, the Director of the Higher School of МВА, Ms. Alsu Akhmetshina, and Deputy Director of the External Relations Office, Ms. Olga Vershinina took part in the discussion.

Ms. Ivshina noted that the discussion was very important as it would determine lines of cooperation development between KFU and the OUC.

During the meeting the guests were demonstrated electronic educational resources available in KFU for Economics, Mathematical Sciences, Oil and Gas Technologies.

Mr. Christou Costas was amazed by success achieved by KFU specialists in e-learning program development. ?It will be much easier for us to cooperate than we were expecting,? noted Mr. Christou Costas. ?The point is that educational resources of the Open University of Cyprus have been developed on the same platform ? Moodle?.

In addition, the delegation members were acquainted with laboratory facilities of KFU Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology and Institute of Physics.

For reference: Open University of Cyprus (OUC) was founded in 2002 to fill up the gap between the open and distance education in the higher education system of the Republic of Cyprus in response to growing demand for continuous education and learning.

The mission of the Open University of Cyprus is to develop education and continuous learning by means of teaching and research, as well as to promote the OUC in neighbouring regions as a centre of education and research.

The OUC offers accredited academic programs at all levels (Bachelor?s, Master?s and Doctoral Degree studies) using the e-learning technique. There are 3 faculties in the OUC at the present time: the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Theoretical and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Management.

The OUC is a member of various European and international organisations, such as the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE).
