The official delegation of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (PRC) paid a visit to Kazan Federal University on June, 26. The delegation was headed by Deputy Governor of the region Shi Dagang.

Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China in the northwest of the country. It is the largest Chinese administrative division taking 1/6 of the country’s total area. Older name of the region is East Turkestan. In ancient times it was the part of the Silk Road.

The guests visited KFU Museum of History and had a meeting with KFU Vice-Rector for International Relations Linar Latypov. L. Latypov reported that 39 students from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region study at KFU at present. He also mentioned the grant contest for post-graduate studies in the KFU priority areas.   

«Kazan University is famous and we have already established contacts with it. Our delegation consists of 27 representatives of largeXinjiangenterprises. We hope to enhance relations in economics. I am sure it will expand cooperation in science, technics and culture”, Shi Dagang said.  

Shi Dagang had an opportunity to meet with a family of students from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region: Gulmira Tursuntay, Nurmuhamet Nurshat and their baby Bilal. The students study at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication.

Cooperation with China

KFU has been cooperating with educational and scientific centers of China for many years: the areas of cooperation are astronomy (Shanghai astronomical observatory), ecology (Nankai University), history and theoretical physics (Jinan University), biomedicine (Sichuan University), advanced materials (Wuhan University), algebra, radiophysics, etc.

One of the oldest partners of Kazan University is Hunan Normal University (since 1990). The Institute of Confucius at the Kazan University was established with HNU support.
