The changes in KFU organizational structure were approved at the meeting of KFU Academic Council on May, 21. The changes are introduced in order to effectively implement KFU Road Map.

The Institute of Ecology and Geography will be reorganized into the Institute of Ecology and Nature Management. The departments of geography and cartography, social and cultural service and tourism, geography and regional studies, theory and methodic of geographic and ecologic education are to be transferred to the Institute of Management and Territorial Development. In its turn, the Institute of Ecology and Nature Management will take up the department of soil sciences from the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology. The new Institute will train about 700 students on 5, Tovarischeskaya str.

Vice-Rector for Education Riaz Minzaripov informed that the Faculty of Philosophy and the Institute of Mass Communications and Social Sciences will be merged. According to the Vice-Rector, this decision was taken to strengthen the sector of humanities. The new name will be determined later during the meeting of combined Academic Council of both units. The Institute will occupy the two floors in the second building and a part of the building on 1/37, Professor Nuzhin St.

KFU Branch in Zelenodolsk will be closed due to non-conformity with efficiency criteria developed by Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation. Rector Ilshat Gafurov emphasized that each staff member will be offered a place in Kazan. All students will be transferred to the corresponding institutes in Kazan, they will be provided with dormitories.
