Fursenko: Number of Priority Fields of Science Development Must Be Limited

Assistant to the President of the RF: we should concentrate on nuclear power industry, space and plasma physics, reported ITAR-TASS.

The state needs to limit the number of priority fields of fundamental science development. That was the opinion expressed by the Assistant to the President of the RF, Mr. Andrey Fursenko, at the meeting of the Presidential Council for Science and Education.

“The state and scientists must jointly determine a limited number of fields which can be divided into three conditional groups,” said Mr. Fursenko. The question, particularly, is “priorities which consider our competitive edges and have a potential – works in the sphere of nuclear power industry, space and plasma physics”.

Furthermore, researches playing “key part in economy development” should become a priority field, as well. Such researches will include new competitive product development – new quality in medicine, construction, communication, creation of new healthy foodstuffs and preservation of the environment.

According to Mr. Fursenko, researches in the sphere of national security must become another priority field.

The Assistant to the President is also sure that there is a necessity to “territorially diversify economy – to use opportunities of economies of different Russian regions, as well as opportunities of Siberia and Far East development".

“We must not permit our science, even the fundamental science, to be concentrated in one-two megalopolises – it’s even dangerous,” underlined the Assistant to the President.
