Kapka Panayotova, a well-known disability leader and human rights advocate in Bulgaria, one of the founders of Independent Living movement and Co-Chair of European Network on Independent Living delivered a lecture in Kazan State Medical University with the support of KFU EC VOICES Center.

According to K. Panayotova, the society should not put obstacles for any groups of population including people with disabilities. This principle is laid in the idea of inclusive space K. Panayotova actively supports.

During the lecture K. Panayotova demonstrated exercises which helped students to realize some problems the disabled people face on a day-to-day basis. It is important to understand that the life of the disabled people is not restricted by their illness. It is rather the society which is not able to create accessible environment and overcome the stereotypes referred to the disabled people.

“Do care about instead of taking care of”, K Panayotova says. Disabled people need support and personal involvement of other people more than guardianship.
