Our Delegates at the VIII UNESCO International Youth Forum

At the beginning of November there was the VIII UNESCO International Youth Forum held in UNESCO headquarters in Paris, with delegates from 162 countries of the world and over 500 observers participating in it.

Farida Zakirova (a student of the Institute of International Relation, History and Oriental Studies of KFU) and Dilbar Sadykova (KFU postgraduate, curator of the Global Shaper Community of the World Economic Forum in the Republic of Tatarstan) represented the Russian Federation.

The Director General of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova, the Director General of ISESCO, Mr. Abdulaziz Otman Attvaygiri, and the special youth representative of the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ahmad Alhendavi, delivered welcoming speeches before the forum participants.

Main topics of the forum were as follows: policy and general concept elaboration in collaboration with young people; development of young people’s abilities for entering a grown-up life; civil duties, democratic participation and social innovations. During the forum delegates also discussed implementation of joint projects, with project for education and social inclusion of Gypsies in Europe, Francophone youth association etc. being among them.

Tatarstan representatives told the audience about a positive experience of successful youth program and project implementation in the Republic of Tatarstan, such as personnel reserve, annual camps and forums of the youth organisation Salat, and acquainted delegates with an activity carried out by the League of Students of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Exe­cution of a final document – the so-called “Young People’s Findings” – has become the forum result. Main ideas of this document were: extension of young people’s rights and participation in youth policy elaboration; expansion of youth representation in UNESCO bodies; education quality improvement; necessity of sustainable development in the sphere of culture; state support of young entrepreneurs; entrepreneurship basics inclusion in the school curricula. The final document will be considered at the 37th session of UNESCO General Conference held from November 05 to November 20, 2013 in UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

Tatarstan representatives participation in the forum has become an opportunity to present ideas of young people not only from one’s own region, but also from the Russian Federation, as a whole. Friendly contacts with representatives of youth organisations from more than 50 countries were established during the forum. Many delegates expressed a wish and readiness to launch joint international youth projects, which will permit to broaden cultural ties of Russia and Tatarstan with other countries and regions of the world.
