Kazan University on a New Silk Road

On the 22nd of August a delegation of mass media representatives from the People’s Republic of China visited the Museum of History of Kazan University.

Chinese journalists are holding a motor rally along the so-called New Silk Road: Chongqing (China) – Duisburg (Germany). This road passes across the territories of many countries and attracts more and more attention of the literary and shooting fraternity. Within almost a month and a half more than three dozens of Chinese mass media representatives will continuously report about a cultural component of cities and countries they will visit.

As the Director General of CQTV group of television and radio broadcasting companies of Chongqing province, Mr. Din Daoi, noted about this event, “A New Silk Road passes through Kazan, and that’s why we stopped here to see how your city looks. Lenin and Tolstoy who studied here are well-known in China. China considers Kazan to be one of the most important cities for Russia, and, as far as we know, Kazan University holds a prominent place in the city, that’s why it was the first place we wanted to see.”

Mr. Dmitry Martynov, the Head of the Department of Philology and Arts of the Far East, the Institute of Foreign Relations, KFU, was accompanying the delegation in the University. He said that this trip was sponsored by the Ministry of Transport of the PRC, and journalists with logotypes on motor cars and clothes were holding a motor rally across the territories of China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Poland and Germany. “When the President of the PRC, Mr. Hu Dzin Tao, visited the University he was invited to the Lenin’s memorial lecture room, and this fact aroused a great interest with Chinese mass media,” reported Mr. Dmitry Martynov. It is clear that journalists are also interested in other famous people who studied in Kazan University – not only Lenin, but also scientists of world-wide reputation. Kazan school of Oriental Studies wasn’t ignored, as well: in the framework of a one-day visit to our city guests visited the Confucius Institute.
