The representative office of the Russian Historical Society – now in KFU

The Representative Office of the Russian Historical Society in Kazan held its constituent meeting in Kazan Federal University on July, 16.

Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin, RT State Counselor Mintimer Shaymiev, KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov, members of the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Academy of Sciences, representatives of the leading scientific and educational institutions of the Volga Region took part in the above mentioned meeting.

It was decided that the Representative Office of the Russian Historical Society in the Volga Region will be opened on the basis of Kazan Federal University.

KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov was given a floor in the beginning of the meeting. “I am sure that Kazan Federal University can significantly contribute to the activities of the Russian Historical Society aimed at re-enforcement of state fundamental principles”, he said. When the decision was taken Ilshat Gafurov expressed his gratitude for the selection of Kazan Federal University. He also stressed that the University considers this fact as recognition of its historical merit.

Sergey Naryshkin talked about the Russian Historical Society as its Chairman. “It is a sign that the historians start thinking about the Russian Historical Society as the united platform where researchers, librarians, archivers, teachers of history, museum staff can discuss the most topical issues, development of historical science and popularization of historical knowledge”, he mentioned. The Russian Historical Society is on the list of 50 major state and non-state institutions which deal with formation of historic culture, history studies. The Representative Office in the Volga Region will be the second (the first one was established in Saint Petersburg several months ago). The representative offices are opened upon the request of the historians. The requests were also received from Novgorod, Penza, Tula, Tver and Kirov.

Sergey Naryshkin announced that Ramil Khayrutdinov, KFU Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations is to be Chairman of the Representative Office of the Russian Historical Society in the Volga Region.

The First President of Tatarstan, RT State Counselor Mintimer Shaymiev became the RHS member.

The meeting was concluded by signing of the agreements on cooperation between Kazan Federal University and Institute of World History, Institute of Russian History, Institute of Archeology and Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology named after N. Miklouho-Maclay of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Russian Historical Society is a non-commercial organization, the association of legal entities re-established in 2012. It is rooted in the Imperial Russian Historic Society which was closed in 1920.

The aim of the Association is to combine efforts of the society, state, scholars, history amateurs and creative persons in order to shape all-Russian historical culture based on the objective studies, popularization and coverage of history, preservation of national memory.
