Today, on April 6, a meeting of the Supervisory Board of Kazan Federal University was held under the chairmanship of Nikolay Nikiforov, the Minister of Communications and Mass Media of Russian Federation, and Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. Before the session started, members of the Supervisory Board visited an exhibition of robotics at the Institute of Engineering of KFU, where they learned about the latest achievements and new projects of the university.

The team of the Laboratory of intelligent robotics systems (LIRS) of the Higher Institute of ITIS showed the Supervisory Board members the Spanish mobile robot company PAL Robotics PMB-2 and told them about the project of its interaction with quadcopters. In 2017 at the Exhibition of the Collegium of the Ministry of Informatization and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan Professor Evgeni Magid told Nikolay Nikiforov and Rustam Minnikhanov about LIRS’ project on development an algorithm of route search in search and rescue scenarios for a heterogeneous group of robots and plans for the automation functionality of the Russian robot "Servosila Engineer". Today LIRS showed the new functionality of the robot, which allows building a map of the environment automatically. Then the honoured guests were shown a team of robot football players Robotis OP-3.

Evgeni Magid shared his impressions of the Supervisory Board members’ visit:

"Based on my observations, our guests liked the robot football players most of all. In the first friendly match the KFU ROMA robot team played against the ROBOTIS OP-3 team. The goal of the Robocup competition for a team of fully autonomous humanoid robot soccer players is to win the game under FIFA's official rules against the human team that won the last World Cup by the middle of the 21st century. On the example of the members of the Supervisory Board, we saw that even the first steps of the robot football teams arouse the genuine interest of the audience, who actively discussed what was happening on the football field, joked and even encouraged the robots. By the way, the programming of both teams of robot soccer players involved undergraduate students in software engineering and graduate students in robotics at the Higher institute of ITIS”.
