University prolongs partnership with Centro de Investigaciones del Petróleo (Cuba)

A memorandum of understanding was signed on 26 January 2021.

The parties plan to continue their cooperation in hydrocarbon science, surveying and prospecting methods, extraction enhancement, and in-situ refnining. The partnership is to be implemented through visits, conferences, and educational courses.

CEINPET is a part of CUPET, Cuban national petroleum company. It has been in close cooperation with the Uni since 2016.

So far, over 200 Cuban professional have received training at KFU. In 2019, KFU and Russian oil company Zarubezhneft tested underground refining techniques at Boca de Jaruco oilfield in Cuba. A visit by CEINPET was arranged that same year.

The Center is one of the biggest clients for the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies. 11 educational courses have been completed so far, and 15 more are planned for 2021 – 2022. The cooperation has since expanded to scientific research.

Notably, General Director of CUPET Juan Torres Naranjo sent a letter of appreciation to the Institute in 2018.
