New Kazan University anthem first played at Russian Student Day celebrations

The traditional event took place on 25 January.

Russian Student Day, also widely known as Tatiana’s Day in Russia (the name day of Church martyr Saint Tatiana), is a longstanding student holiday in Russia, dating back to the establishment of Moscow University in 1755.

This year, as usual, KFU students prepared a vibrant set of performances, mostly dedicated to space exploration (2021 is the 60th anniversary of first manned spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin) and the Year of Indigenous Languages and Cultures in Tatarstan.

In his greeting before the concert, Rector Ilshat Gafurov said, “It’s very important to set priorities, to understand what you want from your student life, and to acquire knowledge, skills and colorful memories for the rest of your life.”

He mentioned that, despite the difficult trials of the coronavirus pandemic, the University stands tall in its scientific, educational, community and athletic endeavors. Many events are planned for this year, which, hopefully, will see a significant easing of pandemic-related restrictions. Apart from being the Year of Indigenous Languages and Cultures in Tatarstan, it’s also the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. Rector Gafurov warmly congratulated everyone and wished the students success in their undertakings.

Finally, the celebration saw the first ever full performance of the University’s new anthem.
