A Meeting with an Eminent Scientist from Japan, Professor Kimitako Matsuzato

On the 28th of March a meeting of Kazan University faculty with an eminent scientist from Japan, Doctor of Law, Professor of Slavic and Eurasian Research Centre of Hokkaido University, Mr. Kimitako Matsuzato, was organized in the conference hall of N. I. Lobachevskiy Scientific Library.

Interuniversity Coordination Council for Humanities and the Institute of Mass Communications and Social Sciences of KFU were the event organizes. According to the Director of the Institute of Mass Communications and Social Sciences, Mr. Nail Mukharyamov, the aim of the arrangement was to discuss requirements set by authors of scientific publications and prospects of our University cooperation with the International Council for Central and East European Studies. By the way, this organisation is an initiator of the forthcoming IX International Congress, which is planned to be held from August 03 to August 08, 2015 in Japan.

“It is the first congress which will be held outside America and Europe. About 200 scholars from Russia usually participate in events of such a kind. We would like Tatarstan to send as many colleague scientists as possible”, – appealed Mr. Kimitako Matsuzato. The Russian language is among the four working languages. “Our colleagues from Korea, Turkey, Mongolia, India, China will take part in the congress, but no English language hegemony will be observed there”, – added Mr. Matsuzato.

A representative of Birmingham University, Professor John Round, and Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, Head of Public Relations Department of Ulyanovskiy State University, Mr. Arbakhan Magomedov, made speeches in the framework of the meeting.

The Professor of Birmingham University, Mr. John Round, devoted his speech to the topic on how scientists who are at the outset of their career can be published in world-famous peer-reviewed scientific magazines. Having told about his research activity and its results publishing practice in Great Britain, Mr. John Round moved on to the subject of his lecture. Here are some of the expert’s advices and recommendations:

“An article must be well-balanced and interesting for the average man”;

“It is important to conduct negotiations with people who have already been published in a certain magazine”;

“You need to decide on whether your article will be more empirical or theoretical, and only then to select a concrete magazine”;

“An article may fail to suit the format of a magazine, for this reason you can waste 6-7 months”;

“The best magazines have the best reviewers, who can give a useful advice, provided, however, that they like your article”;

“7-8 thousand word is the general requirement set by British magazines”;

“Some British scientific magazines offer an opportunity to go beyond the limits, permit to use comics, photos in the form of an accompanying text”;

“Put yourself a question: why a man, for example, from Chicago, should read an article by a Russian scientist? What can you win his interest with?”;

“Use the active dialogue more often, it will add more confidence to your article”;

“A conclusion must not be too short”;

“Do not be afraid to disagree with anything”.

A representative of Ulyanovskiy State University, Mr. Arbakhan Magomedov, in his turn, told the audience about his ties with Kazan and Japan, which were the reasons for the conference attendance by him. He defended his Doctor’s dissertation in Kazan, and as for Japan, he studied in the Slavic Research Centre in Sapporo. Mr. Magomedov and his colleagues from Japan called on scientific community of Kazan to take part in the IX International Congress in Japan.
