Robo-hunter.com 'About the first Russian program on soft-robotics – professor of Kazan Federal University Evgeni Magid'

Kazan Federal University has a unique soft-robotics program for Russia. It is the master's program "Intelligent robotics" of the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) of KFU. Students learn how to create software for robots; and the robots are completely at their disposal during their studies. Evgeni Magid, a Head of the Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems (LIRS) at the Higher Institute of ITIS, told us about lessons in English and regular calls from robotics companies.

Interviewer: Anna Angelova

Respondent: Evgeni Magid

Evgeni Magid is a Head of the LIRS at Kazan Federal University. In 2014-2016, he headed the LIRS at Innopolis University. From 2013 to 2014, he was a senior research associate at the University of Bristol and the Bristol Robotics laboratory in the UK. In 2012, he worked as a research associate at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and from 2011 to 2012 he worked at the University of Tsukuba (Japan).

How long has the master's program in intelligent robotics been functioned?

I had been thinking up this program for the past ten years, and for the first time I launched a pilot version of it at the Innopolis University. The program was launched in September 2017 at the Higher Institute of IT IS of KFU, taking into account all previous successes and mistakes. Every year we continue to make small additions and changes to the program to update it to global trends and requests from potential employers.
