Freshman Day Gala held amid attendance restrictions

Over 200 students showed their talents on 29 October.

Because of the COVID-related restrictions, the traditional festival format was overhauled this year. Preliminaries took place between 7 and 19 October without spectators, temperature measurements were made, and rehearsal participants were wearing face masks.

Freshman Day is a traditional event for Russian universities. It’s held in autumn and includes all types of arts performances, such as vocals, dance, theater, and others.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov visited yesterday’s ceremony and wished the young people best of luck, “Be together forever! Your team and our corporate culture will be of help to you.”

The audience was filled to 30 percent capacity, as outlined by current health and safety requirements. The teams showed their skills in various disciplines, and the audience was also treated to an orchestra rendition of the Game of Thrones soundtrack, as well as a karaoke session.

As usual, the institutes were divided into three groups according to the number of students. In the small group, the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics and the Institute of Psychology and Education were victorious. In the middle group, the Faculty of Law prevailed. And finally, in the large group, the Institute of Philology and the Institute of Economics came first.
