An Associate Professor from Nazarbaev University paid a visit to Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems

On October 17, Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems (LIRS) of the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) was visited by an Associate Professor, PhD of Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan) Almas Shintemirov.

Nazarbayev University is a modern and rapidly developing university located in Astana. The First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, founded it in 2010. The key features of Nazarbayev University are the legally established academic freedom and institutional autonomy, mainly international teaching staff, English as the main language of teaching and research, strict academic requirements for admission and further education, as well as the integration of education and science starting with bachelor degree programs.

It should be pointed out that on June 15 a solemn extended meeting of the Academic Council of Kazan Federal University was held. It was dedicated to awarding the title of Doctor of Honoris Cause of KFU to the Doctor of Economic Sciences, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The Ceremony, which was also attended by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, was held in the Imperial hall of KFU by the rector Ilshat Gafurov.

Almas Shintemirov is an Associate Professor of the Robotics and Mechatronics Department. He started his professional career in 2003 at Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University (ToU) as a teacher at the Electric Power Engineering Department. After graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2009, Almas joined Nazarbayev University to work in various administrative and research positions creating University academic schools and research centers. In 2011 he joined the Robotics and Mechatronics Department and is one of the founders of this Department at Nazarbayev University.

During the meeting a Head of LIRS professor Evgeni Magid spoke about the projects implemented by LIRS employees and students, and showed the equipment they work with. The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere, the guest highly appreciated the work and laboratory’s modern equipment. Colleagues discussed the exchange of bachelor degree and master degree students in robotics, and the possibility of starting joint research in view of strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Tatarstan following the visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev to KFU.
