Leadership change at the Institute of Physics sees Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky assuming Director's chair

Rector Ilshat Gafurov spoke with the team on 19 October.

None of the candidates, including now former Director Sergey Nikitin, submitted their applications for the position. The Rector exercised his right to appoint Interim Director for one year and chose Dmitry Tayursky.

Dr. Gafurov noted that the Institute of Physics is a world-level department recognized for its research in physics and astronomy. However, there is the need to gear up efforts in digitization of educational resources. The Institute also should recruit more international students and provide more flexible advanced training options. International talent is required as permanent staff, and more young researchers should present their DSc theses.

Dr. Gafurov thanked Sergey Nikitin for his quality work and said that he will remain as the Head of the Quantum Technology Center.

Dmitry Tayursky concluded, “We have to move forward. And this movement should be reflected in our performance indicators and our new roadmap.”
