Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems took part in the 5th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Robotics

The 5th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Robotics (ICR 2020) and the 22nd International Conference on Speech and Compute (SPECOM 2020) were held remotely from 07 to 09 October 2020.

The ICR 2020 conference has attracted researchers in the field of human-robot interaction, social and collaborative robotics for the fifth year in a row. The SPECOM is an interdisciplinary scientific event with a long tradition, the first SPECOM was held in St. Petersburg in 1996. Every year SPECOM attracts researchers, linguists and engineers working in the areas of speech science, speech technology, natural language processing, human-computer interaction, etc. The conference is organized by St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Science (SPIIRAS, St. Petersburg, Russia), Munich University of Technology (TUM, Munich, Germany) and Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU, Moscow, Russia). ICR 2020 is a satellite event of the SPECOM 2020.

For the fourth year in a row employees and students of the Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems (LIRS) of the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) (KFU) take part in the ICR conference. This year a graduate student of the “Intelligent robotics” masters program Elvira Chebotareva and a 1-year student of the program Eldar Mingachev presented their reports at the conference.

Elvira presented 2 papers on the following topics:

«Person-Following Algorithm Based on Laser Range Finder and Monocular Camera Data Fusion for a Wheeled Autonomous Mobile Robot». Authors: Elvira Chebotareva, Ramil Safin, Kuo Hsien-Hsia, Alexander Carballo, and Evgeni Magid.

«On the Problems of SLAM Simulation for Mobile Robots in the Arctic Conditions». Authors: Elvira Chebotareva, Tatyana Tsoy, Bulat Abbyasov, Jamila Mustafina, Edgar A. Martinez-Garcia, Yang Bai, and Mikhail Svinin.

Eldar presented a paper on the topic:

«Comparison of ROS-based monocular visual SLAM methods: DSO, LDSO, ORB-SLAM2 & DynaSLAM». Авторы: Eldar Mingachev, Roman Lavrenov, Tatyana Tsoy, Fumitoshi Matsuno. Mikhail Svinin, Jackrit Suthakorn, and Evgeni Magid.

The participants shared with us their conference impressions:

«I have a positive impression after participating in the conference. Taking part in the ICR conference was a useful and exciting event. There were many interesting reports. Reports of the Robot Vision and Cooperative Robots sections impressed most of all. New and amazing scientific results were presented there».
