Two first prize and two second places won students of the Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems of the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems on hackathons on robotics

The VII all-Russian youth school on robotics, artificial intelligence and engineering creativity "Roboschool+" was held from November 19 to 24, 2018 at the Volgograd State Technical University (VSTU). The first Vice-rector of VSTU, professor Alexander Navrotsky, and representatives of the Volgograd region administration spoke at the school opening.

The school program included classes and hackathons on school topics, competitive programming, a project competition, as well as interesting open lectures by invited industry experts. Among the invited speakers was the Head of the Laboratory of intelligent robotic systems (LIRS) professor of the Higher Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) Evgeni Magid of Kazan Federal University, who held an open lecture on the topic “Mobile robotics”.

On November 24, students of the LIRS of the Higher Institute of ITIS (KFU) won medal places in hackathons on robotics within the framework of “Roboschool+”.

1st place in the competition in Robosoccer: Valery Petrov, Safin Ramil.

1st place in the competition of scientific papers: Aufar Zakiev.

2nd place in the hackathon for controlling unmanned aerial vehicles: Aufar Zakiev, Ilnaz Shayakhmetov, Artur Khazetdinov, Ruslan Safin.

2nd place in the hackathon on the Control of wheeled robots. Safin Ramil, Shayakhmetov Ilnaz, Petrov Valery, Zakiev Aufar.

The purpose of the youth school is to implement hands-on experience with advanced technology between students and advanced computer technologies, master modern aspects of programming and use of artificial intelligence systems, computer vision, machine learning and robotic systems in various fields. The school's topics include an overview of the latest achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning and robotics, directions of their development, as well as examples of their use in solving practical problems.

More than 300 people, mostly from Volgograd and the Volgograd region, took part in various events of "Roboschool+". Participants of another town passed a multi-stage competitive selection for participation in the "Roboschool+": the expert Commission selected 43 representatives of 15 universities from 13 regions of the Russian Federation from a large number of applications based on questionnaires and proposed projects. KFU is represented by the largest group of participants of another town. Out of 20 applications submitted by KFU, 7 students of the LIRS were selected, as well as a master's student of the N.I. Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics.

Ilnaz Shayakhmetov, a first-year student of the “Intelligent robotics” master's program at the Higher Institute of ITIS, shared his impressions of participating in the "Roboschool+":

«Volgograd made an impression of a comfortable city. I am very happy to participate in the Roboschool. We have a busy schedule with useful lectures from leading experts and a lot of practice in master classes. In each event, I learn from 40% to 90% of what is new to me. There is a great working atmosphere and communication with interesting well rounded people».

At the end of the youth school, the best works of participants presented at the project competition held within its framework will be published in the school's proceedings.
