Clarifications given about dorm check-ins in 2020

A livestream was held on 9th September.

University representatives, including Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Timirkhan Alishev and Head of the Department of Youth Policy Yuliya Vinogradova, gave comments about the ongoing process and its peculiarities stemming from the COVID-19 restrictions.

As always, dorm places will be guaranteed to all freshmen, no matter when or from where they arrive. As for other students, places are distributed based on academic merit, non-academic activism and general discipline performance in the previous year. Importantly, KFU still provides housing for 136 alumni of the year 2020 who haven’t been able to leave for their home countries.

For everyone who arrives to Kazan to study from other countries, the two major requirements are:

  1. An entrant must provide a COVID-19 test results in English or Russian language; the test must be performed not earlier than 3 days before arrival.
  2. After arriving to Kazan University, an entrant must go through a 14-day quarantine at a special dormitory. In 10 to 12 days after entering quarantine, a COVID-19 test will be performed free of charge. All persons who are not carriers of COVID-19 can then be admitted to usual on-site studies. The learning process in quarantine is provided via distance technologies.

Check-ins will be provided until November because entrance exams this year are held as late as 26th October. If a student opts out from living a dormitory, their place is allocated to others who need it.

Of course, restrictions are also in place for dorm inhabitants. For instance, guests are not allowed in dormitories until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

The interviewees expressed hope that international students may be given invitations soon. This depends on the decisions made by the Government of Russia and other countries’ governments regarding international flights and border control.
