Gas filtration models studied for effectiveness of oil displacement

A KFU project is supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

Assistant Lecturer Aleksey Sorokin has long been researching oil displacement methods to enhance extraction from heavy oil deposits.

Of the gas filtration techniques, the most widely used are reservoir core model displacement and slim tube. As Sorokin notes, slim tube is good for mass transfer modeling, “Reservoir core can with some accuracy predict the influence of porous medium on displacement processes. In this case, slim tube is a more effective solution because of the mixing of oil and gas. Reservoir cores do not allow that.”

For effective oil extraction, it’s important to plan forward with the most suitable technology. This is what happens in university labs. Gas filtration modeling is widely used for that.
