University School of Yelabuga opens doors

The University’s new in-house secondary school welcomed 465 pupils, 56 of them first-graders.

As is customary for Russia, an outdoor celebration was held at the school on 1st September. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Head of Yelabuga Municipal District Zulfiya Sungatullina, Deputy Director of KFU Yelabuga Institute for Student Activities Gulnaz Sattarova, Deputy Director of the Yelabuga State Museum Reserve for Research Alexander Degotkov, and Chairwoman of the University School Veterans Association Lidiya Pankova. A welcome speech was presented by School Principal Kamill Gareev.

In the previous months, the school has become basically unrecognizable. Everything, from facade walls to class equipment, has been refurbished and renovated. KFU students are going to intern at the school to train for their future teaching activities.

“It’s very pleasant to see how our school has changed. It’s now a modern institution with new equipment. Thanks very much to the Federal University for this gift in the new academic year,” shares 11th grader Andrey Borikhin.

The 1st graders, who are always the most important guests of the celebratory September opening, received academic record books with KFU branding.

Savely Timofeev, one of those who stepped inside school walls for the first time in their lives, says, “I think I am very lucky to study in this beautiful new school. I’ve been long waiting for the Knowledge Day, and it has finally come.”

After the morning lineup, the pupils attended their first lesson of the year, called the Peace Lesson according to a longstanding tradition, and then toured the Yelabuga Institute’s and the city’s museums.
