24 July 2020
Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Timirkhan Alishev answered questions about admissions and global partnerships

A livestream was held on 23rd July.

Here is a selection of Dr. Alishev’s answers on various issues.

On international student body

We currently host 9.5 thousand international students, which makes us the second in this category in Russia after RUDN University. This is a consequence our infrastructure, dormitories, and the attractiveness of Kazan as a city. This is an international city; people of different faiths live here peacefully.

On educational process in autumn 2020

If Russian borders do not open by 1st September, the studies will start in a distance format. Our task is open online educational resources for all of the first-year courses. Lab practice may be shifted further to spring 2021 or in some cases also may be conducted online.

On the schedule of admissions and studies in autumn 2020

The year will start in September only for those who are admitted before 1st September. For others, the studies may start in October or November. Dormitory check-ins are scheduled to begin on 24th August.

On what international students are doing in the summer

Students are permitted to work at the university without any additional paperwork. I visited Yalchik Camp yesterday, and there are 25 people who work and rest there. Another 25 students will arrive in August. They all have completed the Preparatory School course and are enrolling in the University.

So far, about 100 international students have found employment, including at places other than KFU.

On whether the University will be able to maintain the number of international students this year

We don’t see any decline, but vice versa, there is a growth of interest in Kazan University. There are about 30 percent more applications this year.
