Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov met with young scientists

Two KFU employees joined the online event on 22nd July.

The University was represented by Chairman of the Association of Young Scientists of KFU Mikhail Varfolomeev and Associate Professor Ayrat Kayumov.

Falkov answered a number of questions on digitization, popularization of science, online thesis presentations, special mortgage programs and grants for young scientists, commercialization of research, and other pertinent issues.

Dr. Kayumov asked the Minister about raising monthly stipends for PhD candidates. Valery Falkov answered that it’s on the table, but the whole effectiveness of PhD programs must also grow. Currently, only a fraction of PhD researchers complete their studies with presenting a dissertation.

As for online dissertation presentations, the Minister confirmed that it will be legalized as a legitimate form of certification.

After the meeting, Dr. Varfolomeev reiterated that the Coordinating Council on Youth Affairs in Science under the Presidential Council on Science and Education remains an efficient communication channel for young researchers.
