Kazan University's agricultural innovations showed at Field Day Expo

The expo is being held in Laishevo District of Tatarstan on 2nd – 4th July 2020.

As First Vice-Rector Riyaz Minzaripov noted, this is the first time that KFU’s Institute of Environmental Sciences partakes in this event, “Our scientists’ works are being studied and implemented into practice. At this particular expo, two of our projects are presented – biochar and organic compost. Should they be introduced into agriculture, our environment will benefit immensely. We are very glad to see the University put forth practical suggestions.”

More details came from the Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences Svetlana Selivanovskaya, “We aim to see that KFU is an institution teaching professionals for agriculture. We prepare people to understand what happens in soils, why do plants ail, what is circular economy, how to best recycle the existing waste into fertilizers and increase crops.”

As she pointed out, KFU has amassed significant expertise in bio preparations for non-traditional fertilizers. The proposed technology helps increase the resiliency of useful microbes.

The pyrolysis technology is being implemented by Agrosila, a large Russian agricultural group. Pyrolysis facilitates full elimination of all pathogenic microorganisms while leaving a very useful substrate of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and other compounds which can be utilized for fertilizing.

The other technology comprises compost production from chicken dung. The know-how is what needs to be done to speed up the process and to add microorganisms to the resulting material.

The research is undertaken by the Institute of Environmental Sciences and the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology.
