PhD Oleg Pidanov, cardiac surgeon at the Davydsky State Hospital in Moscow, held a master class in 3D visualization in the operating theater.

Two surgeries on heart valves were performed.

Head of Cardiac Surgery at the University Clinic Daniyar Khaziakhmetov commented, “The standard operation in the surgical treatment of valvular defects is performed through total median sternotomy (full longitudinal section of the sternum), which is a rather traumatic approach that lengthens the patient's rehabilitation time and leaves noticeable cosmetic scars.”

University Clinic surgeons also performed procedures with lateral minithoracotomy (small incisions between ribs). With the help of some new equipment, valve replacement and radio frequency ablation were made.

Thus, the Clinic employees acquired new skills in operating on a combined pathology with minimal postoperative trauma.
