Associate Professor Lera Kamalova (Department of Preschool and Elementary Education) is convinced that theater pedagogy is a good way to train future teachers.

According to national statistics, about 30% of young teachers leave work after only one year of employment. One of the reasons is that their superiors and parents of pupils have unrealistically stringent requirements.

Raduga (“Rainbow”), a kids’ theater of Kazan Federal University, is an entity helping students to attune their pedagogical prowess. The theater has been active since September 2017.

“School theatrical pedagogy is a specific system of educational instruments. Students learn to overcome psychological barriers, become more motivated, and study arts. Apart from that, they train to work in a team, manage their time and interact with other people,” says Dr. Kamalova.

As tutors, freshmen help elementary school kids. Veronika Tsaryova, one of such students, shares, “When I came to the theater for the first time, I couldn’t even imagine that such young kids can be so talented. I’ve learned a lot about child psychology, and I can utilize this in my further work.”

Apart from psychological, pedagogical and coaching competences, students, of course, receive significant moral and emotional satisfaction from such a fulfilling undertaking.
