Best practices and cooperation plans were discussed in Moscow on 12th November.
“This meeting was made possible thanks to the Russian Union of Rectors and our British colleagues. There are 65 rectors and vice-rectors from 40 Russian and 20 UK universities,” said Rector of Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy in his welcome speech.
As for Kazan Federal University, it has longstanding links with partners from the United Kingdom. Among them are the University of Oxford, the University of Glasgow, University of Nottingham, the University of Southampton, the University of Sheffield, Imperial College London, University of Bath, University of Portsmouth, Heriot-Watt University, and others. Cooperation areas are oncology, regenerative medicine, veterinary science, and pharmaceutics. Many projects are supported by the Royal Society (UK), Russian Science Foundation (Russia), and other scholarly institutions. A joint program in petroleum engineering with ICL started this year. Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is also a partner in education certification.
In his speech at the meeting, Rector Gafurov informed, “In 2019, we held the 5th International Forum on Teacher Education, with over 500 participants, including 100 overseas guests. Thanks this focused work, Kazan University was the first university to enter the top 100 of world universities in Times Higher Education rankings in Education.”
Yesterday, an agreement was signed by the Russian Union of Rectors and Universities UK. A panel discussion was conducted on bilateral cooperation. Rector Gafurov presented KFU’s experience in this sphere and touched on the University’s strategy of internationalization and digitization.
A roundtable on educational policies in the two countries is scheduled for today, 12th November. Several KFU employees will join Dr. Gafurov at the table.
