3rd International Conference 'University Library in the International Information Environment'

The forum is organized on 22nd – 23rd October.

Over 100 participants from Russia and Uzbekistan have arrived to Kazan to join the event at Kazan University’s Lobachevsky Library.

In his greeting on 22nd October, Vice-Rector for Research Danis Nurgaliev said, ‘Information is more accessible now, but it becomes more needed even as there becomes more of it. Books are here to stay, and libraries as well. Thank you for your participation. Libraries are forever.’

After that, Library Director Yevgeny Strukov talked about university libraries and how they are shaped by clients’ demands.

‘Libraries can be catalysts of innovation and stimulate creativity. What is the librarian community tasked with? On one side, it has to adhere to its principles, and on the other side, to be involved in the universities’ strategic initiatives,’ said he.

Strukov presented the results of a questionnaire offered to KFU students and educators recently. 312 students and 103 employees completed the questionnaire. Apparently, only 20% have never visited the library. The respondents also said that the paper catalogue with physical cards should continue existing and that the library has ample information about its resources.

The conference comprises several panels, roundtables, and presentation of commercial products for libraries. Naturally, a comprehensive trip around the Lobachevsky Library’s vast infrastructure is included.
