11th International Conference 'Near-Earth Astronomy and Space Heritage'

The event is scheduled for 30th September – 4th October.

The conference is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union and 225th birthday of the famous astronomer, Rector of Kazan University, Ivan Simonov (1794 - 1855).

Yesterday, the participants were greeted by Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky. After that, Chair of the Department of Astronomy and Space Geodesy Ilfan Bikmaev presented an overview of the history of astronomical research at Kazan University. Dr. Bikmaev was glad to share some results of the observations of Comet Borisov, the first observed interstellar comet, made by the KFU’s RTT-150 telescope. Notably, the latest data was analyzed on 30th September, the day of his report.

The conference is divided into five panels – Small Bodies of the Solar System, Asteroid and Comet Danger, Problems of Celestial Mechanics, Artificial Satellites and Space Garbage, and Space Heritage.

6th Youth School on Space Science is also a part of the conference. Over a hundred schoolchildren and students are expected to attend.
