9th Russian Conference on Lithology

Over 170 rock scientists have gathered at Kazan University for a second time.

The meeting is scheduled for 30th September – 3rd October.

This year, the participants plan to discuss sedimentary genesis, new methods of sediment correlations, and geological surveying.

Rinat Khasanov, Chair of the Department of Regional Geology and Mineral Resources of Kazan University, elaborates, “This year’s conference is dedicated to the lithology of sedimentary complexes of Eurasia and offshore areas, i. e. the areas where there are current intense search surveys. Offshore is a very promising area that hasn’t yet been sufficiently studied. There are prospects to find oil, natural gas, and other resources.”

The participants were greeted by Vice-Rector Danis Nurgaliev, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies Ildus Chukmarov, and Chairman of this 9th Conference, Head of Lithology and Sedimentary Mineral Resources Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yury Gavrilov.

Before the conference opened, 16 visitors had toured sample sections of the Permian and the Carboniferous in Bashkortostan, a province of Russian to the east of Tatarstan. The expedition was headed by Rafael Sungatullin, Chairman of the Conference Program Committee.
