City of Kazan’s hosting of WorldSkills 2019 has attracted many dignitaries, one of whom is Dr. Fursenko. Firstly, Rector Gafurov informed him about KFU’s readiness to open the Center for Precision and Regenerative Medicine. “The Center will be a link between research and clinical practice and will help increase capabilities for early diagnostics of cancer, infections, immune and orphan diseases, as well as for cell and gene therapy,” said Dr. Gafurov.

The Center will comprise 25 hospital beds, wards of noninvasive surgery, traumatology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, and neurological rehabilitation. Its strategic partners are RIKEN (Japan), Weill Cornell Medicine (USA), and the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom).

The Precision and Regenerative Medicine Center also includes a biobank, Center for Cell Technology, Clinical Research Unit, and Extreme Biology Lab. The team leader of the latter Oleg Gusev opined, “We are on the brink of a new scientific revolution – analysis of separate cells, and we can find out what happens in individual cell genomes, attract the best foreign peers who are ready to cooperate, and achieve leadership in the world. The program is called Regulatory Genomics.”

Finally, the University Clinic – also visited by Dr. Fursenko – showed its latest advancements in research-to-practice translation for outpatient and inpatient needs.
