GISneuro, a machine learning software for geophysical data, is gaining steam

KFU’s partner in this project is national oil powerhouse Tatneft.

Associate Professor, Head of Innovation at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies Vladislav Sudakov comments, “This is a full-scale software product based on neural networks aimed at interpreting data from oil wells. The backend is ready, and we are currently working on the UI.

“Each well has a database with dozens of reports about various geophysical surveys. We had to optimize this data stream for 4,500 wells with the use of machine learning. We were able to find an algorithm to accelerate this process to the orders of magnitude.”

The process has been tested at Romashkino oilfield, and 96% of wells were analyzed by the program. The other 4% are very complex and need other algorithms, says the research team.

Mr. Sudakov adds, “We analyze terrain, and we have information about pipelines, villages, rivers, and ravines. This huge volume of information must be handled in a short timeframe. Our algorithm can do this in under 24 hours.”
