LIRS participated in the Vth Pan-Russian Research and Practice Workshop on Unmanned vehicles

From 22 to 24 May the Vth Pan-Russian Research and Practice Workshop “Unmanned vehicles with elements of artificial intelligence” was held in Saint Petersburg. Aim of the workshop was to present new results and exchange the experience between specialists in the field of artificial intelligence, robotics and unmanned vehicles. In 2019 the workshop was organized by Russian association of artificial intelligence (RAAI) in collaboration with St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS). Full versions of the papers reviewed successfully and accepted for publication will be indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) database.
In 2017 the workshop was held within Kazan Federal University with organizers such as Laboratory of Intelligent Robotic Systems (LIRS) and RAAI. This year a Head of LIRS, a member of workshop program committee, professor Evgeni Magid presented the research papers. The topics of these ones were:
      «Pilot virtual experiments in comparison of coordinate systems labels Aruco and AprilTag resistance to rotation». Authors: A. Zakiev, K. Shabalina, T. Tsoy, E. Magid;

    «Simulation of Aurora “Junior” mobile robot in ROS/Gazebo environment». Authors: K. Shabalina, A. Sagitov, E. Magid;

       «Transmission the machine learning approach with reinforcement from simulation model to mobile robot». Authors: A. Sagitov, Tetsuto Takano, Shohei Muto, R. Lavrenov.

Professor Evgeni Magid shared information about the workshop with us: “Traditionally, the seminar brought together the leading scientists in the field of artificial intelligence for unmanned robots. As in the previous workshop, spirited discussion was caused by our series of works on coordinate labels systems. Also, many scientific groups, following the LIRS team, actively began to integrate their developments into the robotic operating system ROS and to use Gazebo simulator. For the first time representatives of the legal industry took part on the workshop; within the round table "REL: robots, ethics, law" they broach a subject of ethical aspects of the Autonomous systems use and legislative regulation in the field of intelligent robotics. For instance, we learned that the team of developers, who had an error in their code or algorithm that caused the death of man under the wheels of unmanned vehicle, can be punished up to the life imprisonment, in accordance with the article #105 of the Criminal Code (CC), part 2, paragraph "g". I do always remind our students of the huge responsibility of the developer of intelligent robots for their creation, but now, thanks to the Moscow state University lawyers there will be concrete measure of this responsibility on my lectures”.
