KFU representative joined ICOMOS National Committee

Head of KFU World Cultural Heritage Center Rafael Valeev was elected to the Committee during its 1st Election Conference.

75 delegates from 12 Russian provinces arrived, including 3 employees from Kazan University. The Tatarstani delegation presented its initiatives in two projects – ‘Russian Corridors of the Great Silk Road’ and ‘Tree Entanglements of Russia.’ Kazanites also shared their ideas on advancing cultural preservation education in the country.

‘Tree Entanglements’ is a relatively new project dedicated to preserving and reconstructing some of the large-scale defense establishments constructed on the southeastern borders of the Russian State in the 16th – 17th centuries. Those are impressive engineering and industrial efforts.

The Tatarstani branch of ICOMOS has achieved significant results in the last three years. In particular, Sviyazhsk Assumption Cathedral and Monastery were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The branch employees also contributed to organizing UNESCO Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in 2018 and Architectural Heritage Festival in 2019.
